The reading from Harris this week entitled “Taking an Approach” offered a very interesting analogy. He compares his idea of reworking a piece of literature to a cover song. This was a very affective correlation for me as I connect more regularly with a song than I necessarily do with a work of writing. When covering a song and covering it well, artists are able to make their audience completely rethink the song. An affective essay should take the ideas of an original literature and rework them in a way that makes opens its readers to a different interpretation of those ideas. This comparison really helps be to grasp the ideas Harris is presenting in this section.
