Manifestos

I liked the idea that if Oulipo should be forgotten, erased from history, people would eventually rediscover their work. It is an implied circuity combined with a jab at naysayers that I appreciate. The author denies them the opportunity to simply forget the movement and experimental, literary acrobatics. The assertion that the Oulipo consciously promote those acrobatics relegates any exercise in rediscovery to the subconscious. An exercise that, because of its subconscious nature, is unavoidable, albeit perhaps accidental. The statement also suggests that these games are entirely rational affairs. People play games. Games are a stimulating psychological exercise. Why not play them?
